I remember being in middle school and being excited and scared to go to high school. As a kid I watched lots of movies and this gave me an image of what high school would be like. I would also hear things from people who were in high school, or stories that people had passed down. Now that I’m I high school, I can tell you that most of these things were just outright lies or exaggerated truths.
#1) Freshman year will be the hardest.
Everyone thinks freshman year is the most difficult. They think seniors will shove them in lockers, teacher will hate them and give them so much homework, or that they will have to sit alone in the cafeteria. In truth, the senior don’t have time for you, they have their own lives to live. The teachers don’t hate you for any reason, but there are some teachers that give out a lot of work. Freshman year isn’t going to hard unless your new student who just moved to the area. You’ll be able to find some friends and become closer and form a bigger group.
#2) You will have a group of friends you do everything with.
When you go to high school, people believe that they will have a group of 2-3 friends that they will do everything with. You will have lunch together, be in the same class, hang out after school every day and share every little secret with them. For some of you, most of it might be true, but for others it might not too far from true. Many people when they get to high school will have few close friends and others are just friends or acquaintances. Most people in high school form large groups and hang out together and within those bigger groups there are smaller groups.
#3) “The plastics” from Mean Girls
For all of those who have watched Mean Girls, you know who the plastics are. They are the three girls who ``owned`` the school. The deceiving and delusional bully Regina George doesn’t exist in high school and there are no plastics. There’s going to be no queen bee that walks through the halls like she’s so fabulous, people are too busy hanging out with their friends. Let’s not forget the burn book! The burn book does not exist in high school, or at least that I know. Maybe, just maybe it exists and your name is in it.
#4) High schools is divided into social cliques
Lots of movies show that when you get to high school you will have to pick a group of people you will spend the next four years of your life with. Most of these groups are labeled, so once you join you become one of them and that you cannot converse with people from the other cliques. The most commons ones are the jocks, cheerleader, Goths, nerds, punks, gangsters and the druggies. In reality cliques do exist, but there not as intense as shown in movies. For example in the movie Bratz, it’s about 4 best girlfriends entering high school, joining different social cliques and still trying to be friend, while the student body president tried to separate them. Some of them might be easy spots out and some might just be big groups of different people who like to hang out.
#5) Cheesy romances
Don’t we all just want that perfect high school romance? Finding that one special person, like Gabriella and Troy found each other from High School Musical? This doesn’t happen in real life, especial not in high school. You don’t just see a hot guy or girl walking down the hall way, fall head over heels for him/her and after many things happen between the both of you, you become and inseparable couple. This might be the case for a very few of you, but this doesn’t happen to everyone.
